The Bookmobile is more than just a mobile library — it is a bridge to literacy and learning. By bringing books, technology, and educational programs directly to students, the Bookmobile supports equitable access to resources, particularly for students in underserved communities. It fosters a love of reading, enhances academic achievement, and promotes lifelong learning. Through personalized interactions and targeted programming, the Bookmobile ensures that every student has the opportunity to thrive.
Services
We are excited to announce that Bookmobile service begins March 31, 2025, exclusively serving MNPS charter schools for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year and throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
The Bookmobile offers a dynamic extension of library services, bringing resources directly to students and supporting educational success. Our services include:
- Book Checkouts: Providing access to a wide selection of books for all reading levels and interests.
- Reader’s Advisory: Offering personalized reading recommendations to foster a love of reading.
- Tailored Programs: Delivering customized literacy and learning programs designed by Bookmobile staff to complement classroom instruction.
- Digital Instruction: Guiding students and educators in accessing and using digital resources effectively.
Student Access and Parent Choice
As the Bookmobile operates under Limitless Libraries, it has access to MNPS student data, allowing students to check out materials using their MNPS student ID numbers. In recognition of parents’ rights, Nashville Public Library (NPL) firmly supports parents having authority over their child's reading choices.
Should a parent prefer their child not to participate in Bookmobile checkouts, please use the Opt-Out Form (pdf).
Scheduling and Visits
To request Bookmobile services, please fill out an interest form. A Bookmobile team member will visit your school to confirm there is adequate space for safe student access and parking. Once approved, you will receive a reservation link to start scheduling visits.
The Bookmobile team will collaborate with you to schedule a rotation within 3 to 6 weeks, ensuring students have the opportunity to return materials and check out new ones.
Each Bookmobile stop will last up to 5 hours, with only one school scheduled per day to ensure a meaningful experience. Visits may also be scheduled after school hours upon special request.
For any questions, please contact the Bookmobile team at NPLBookmobile@nashville.gov. We look forward to bringing the joy of reading to your school.
